Mohawk i-Tone represents a new benchmark in papers for toner-based printing.
Mohawk i-Tone is a proprietary process which is formulated to enhance toner-to-paper
performance on the HP Indigo, the Kodak NexPress, and the Xerox iGen3™ Digital
Production Press.

i-Tone and the HP Indigo Press
The HP Indigo Press has relied upon pre-treating papers with a Sapphire treatment to ensure the transfer and adhesion of liquid toner. This additional step of pre-treating papers is time consuming, expensive and creates a 6- to 12-month shelf life for the paper. Mohawk i-Tone papers perform on the HP Indigo Press without a Sapphire-treatment. In fact, they offer better toner transfer, better toner adhesion and better image quality than Sapphire-treated papers. In addition, Mohawk i-Tone papers do not pose any shelf-life issues.

Press Performance
Mohawk’s i-Tone papers consistently measure a 99% toner adhesion, compared to an 80% standard for certified papers. This translates into a huge savings in toner loss. It also prevents images from appearing, or ghosting, onto the next sheet. Mohawk i-Tone offers exceptional image transfer, with fewer “clicks” to clean blankets, longer blanket life and heightened productivity. Because blankets stay cleaner when using i-Tone papers, cleaning sheets normally used after running 250 printed pages are not necessary. Superfine i-Tone requires zero, to a maximum of one, cleaning sheet which obviously affects productivity. Superfine and Strathmore i-Tone are exceptional uncoated papers in the HP Indigo press, leaving not a trace of fiber or calcium carbonate on the blanket. This results in less paper waste to clean the blankets and less wear on the blankets.

i-Tone and digital color production presses
The Kodak NexPress and Xerox iGen3™ Digital Production Press are increasingly being used in the pressroom for projects that require branded papers–or more specifically papers that aren’t necessarily bright white and smooth. Mohawk i-Tone has been found to improve toner transfer and adhesion on textured papers such as Mohawk Strathmore Writing Wove and Strathmore Script Pinstripe. The surface chemistry of these i-Tone papers have such an affinity for toner that it helps retain the toner in the low areas, or the “valleys” of the paper.

i-Tone and secondary processes
Mohawk i-Tone papers can be used on offset printing presses prior to running on the HP Indigo. Be sure to consult your HP Indigo printer for run specifications. Preprinted shells or letterhead which have been printed on a toner-based device (either liquid or dry toner) should not be run through a laser printer or copier.
